A catalogue of 150,000 products with same-day shipping

Context

A shop with 150,000 products is not a bigger version of a shop with a thousand. Every product has dozens of technical parameters engineers filter by, prices that differ in every country, stock in two distribution centres and a same-day shipping promise. The systems have to take traffic from 19 markets at once and get none of them wrong. The shop’s product pages ran on an old technology that generated them on the server: every change was slow, and a modern, fast interface could not be built on it.

What I built

As part of the SDK Global Ltd team I moved the product-related pages from the old technology to the client’s dedicated commerce platform, without changing what calculates prices and stock underneath.

Product pages, new version

• Product lists with filtering by the dozens of technical parameters engineers search by.
• Product pages: parameters, documentation, price and availability for the market the customer comes from.
• The same pages for 19 countries, with separate prices and stock from two distribution centres.

The client’s name and the technical details stay under a non-disclosure agreement.

Outcome

A customer in any of the 19 countries browses the 150,000-product catalogue on modern, fast pages: they filter by parameters, see their own price and availability, and an order placed during the day ships the same day. The shop gained product pages on its own dedicated platform, where new features can be added quickly, while what calculates prices and stock carries on unchanged.
